Lecture/Workshop in Basel: The Role of Interpreters in Shaping Early 19th Century Sino-British Relations1

Prof. Dr. Henrietta Harrison, Professor of Chinese History at the University of Oxford, will be delivering a public lecture with the title "The Role of Interpreters in Shaping Early Nineteenth Century Sino-British Relations" on 27 March 2025 at the University of Basel. All are welcome.

On the following day, 28 March 2025, Prof. Henrietta Harrison will also be conducting a half-day workshop on 28 March 2025 at the University of Basel, during which the role of translators in European diplomatic missions in China will be discussed. Master's students and doctoral candidates from neighbouring universities – including Freiburg – who are interested are welcome to attend; please write in to Prof. Dr. Nadine Amsler to register.
